Campaign Steps
Our strategy for reaching our campaign goals is broken down into four steps. The first step has been completed, and we are currently in Step 2 – Building for Strength.
Step 1 – LAYING THE FOUNDATION (Completed)
Since 2009, close to $2,000,000 has been given to Kansas Christian College to impact students of all ages who are equipped to serve their local and global community, transform their culture with the love of Christ, and disciple others to be committed followers of Jesus.
♦ In 2008, the college accreditation process began under the leadership of Dr. Gayle Woods and Vice President of Academics Dorothy Purtle. In Feb. 2013, KCC was awarded Candidate Status through the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE). Accreditation mandates quality educational programs with continual assessments of the program and focuses the college on a life changing mission. The accreditation process continues with full ABHE accreditation scheduled for February 2017.
♦ Approval to distribute Title IV Funds (Pell Grants and loans) was received in April 2014. This U.S. Department of Education program makes it possible for students of all ages to have access to higher education.
♦ The position of Director of Finance had been vacant since 2009. In early 2013, this was filled by Bill Lee, and a budgeting process was established and implemented. Our goal to establish financial stability was made a top priority.
♦ In 2012, the Kansas City Music Preparatory School was established as a way of helping musically exceptional students develop and use their gifts for Christ. Under the leadership of renowned professor Wha-In Lee, the school received approximately $50,000, which was invested in facilities and pianos to facilitate this program. In January 2015, the private loan for the initial piano investment was paid off through tuition payments of the music students. A B.A. in Performance Music was added and approved by ABHE in the fall of 2013.
♦ A new ministry program called The Year was added in 2012. Recognizing a strong desire in many Christians for finding God’s will and being prepared to serve with confidence, KCC Vice President of Adult and Online Education Matt Lee led in developing this one-year college credit program, which includes a strong component of practical, hands-on ministry and mission experience. The Year has opened the doors of preparation to men and women of all ages and backgrounds to be ready for service for the Master.
♦ With KCC’s role as a ministry training school with limited degree programs, an effort to establish partnerships with other colleges and universities began in 2014. MidAmerica Nazarene University was the first to sign a cooperative agreement for a seamless transfer for students seeking a B.A. in Elementary Education with a Kansas State Teaching Certificate. Expanded opportunities in other degree programs have been established, and more are in development.
♦ With less than half of the colleges the size of KCC offering online degree programs, KCC joined a minority of innovative institutions by voting to establish online education in February 2015.
Step 2 – BUILDING FOR STRENGTH ($1 million)
Expanding upon the amazing blessings God has given us over the past five years, we are now taking steps to build for strength.
These are our action steps in this new phase of the plan:
♦ Extend the reach of our mission through online post-secondary education by offering an A.A. or B.A. in Religion with an emphasis in Leadership and Ministry. The projected enrollment is 200-300 students within the first five years, which will offer a significant stream of revenue to our institution.
♦ Complete the renovation of the vacant elementary building, giving us a modern educational facility that will provide adequate space to increase our capacity by more than 50 percent in an effort to offer 125 more elementary and secondary students biblical worldview education.
♦ Complete campus renovation projects that will allow us to continue to reach more students and provide them with outstanding learning opportunities and facilities.
♦ Provide student scholarships that will allow us to attract 75-100 more quality students who desire a biblical worldview education.
♦ Establish new marketing and recruitment initiatives to attract 75-100 more students of all ages that we can develop into servant-leaders.
♦ Develop new cutting-edge ministry programs such as church planting and biblical counseling that will allow us to attract more post-secondary students who want to be equipped to serve their local and global community.
♦ Add a college athletics program that will help improve the student experience on campus, while allowing us to recruit 25-35 new students and providing a natural destination for our high school students who might want to play collegiate-level athletics. In addition, we will expand the high school athletics program, allowing us to attract 20-30 new students to that department and further establishing the secondary program as a feeder program to the college department.
Step 3 – BUILDING FOR EXPANSION ($1.25 million)
As our foundation is strengthened through intentional efforts to broaden our reach and attract students that can be developed into servant-leaders, it will be necessary to build for expansion.
More details regarding this phase will be released as we draw closer to its beginning.
Step 4 – BUILDING FOR SUCCESS ($3.5 million)
As we continue to broaden the reach of our mission and commit to excellence, modern facilities must be constructed to enhance the student experience, promote a professional atmosphere, and serve our local community. In short, we must build for success. More details regarding this phase will be released as we draw closer to its beginning.
