Brynn didn’t hesitate because she doubted Jesus.
She hesitated because she knew herself.
Like many students, Brynn wrestled with a familiar fear before taking the step of baptism. She knew she wasn’t perfect. She knew she would fail again. And for a while, that fear almost kept her from stepping forward.
That honesty became the starting point of a powerful moment on the campus of Kansas Christian College in Overland Park, Kansas.
During a recent chapel gathering, KCC Softball Coach Taralee McReynolds shared openly about the conversations she had with Brynn leading up to that day. She reminded the room of a truth that sits at the heart of the Christian faith: becoming a Christian doesn’t make someone perfect, it makes them forgiven.
“Christians aren’t better,” she shared. “We’re forgiven.”
Coach McReynolds spoke about grace and truth walking hand in hand, pointing to the example of Jesus, who refused to condemn but also refused to ignore truth. Her words created space for honesty, not performance. For growth, not guilt.
That space matters.
At Kansas Christian College, faith is not about pretending to have it all together. It’s about walking with others who are willing to support you through the journey. Coaches, faculty, and students come alongside one another, not just in classrooms or on the field, but in life and spiritual formation.
Following Coach McReynolds’ message, Dr. Gui Fadlalla, KCC’s Men’s Soccer Coach, led the campus in prayer. He thanked God for forgiveness, mercy, and new life, reminding everyone present that we are made new not by our efforts, but by Christ’s sacrifice.
Then came the moment Brynn had been wrestling toward.
Surrounded by her community, Brynn publicly declared her faith and was baptized by Dr. Fadlalla alongside fellow freshman Sammy Booth. It was a quiet, joyful picture of faith lived out in community, a reminder that no one walks this journey alone at KCC.
Moments like this reflect what makes Kansas Christian College unique.
Students are known.
They are supported.
They are encouraged to grow academically, athletically, and spiritually.
Whether in chapel, practice, or everyday campus life, KCC exists to help students take their next step, whatever that step may be.
For Brynn, that step was baptism.
For others watching, it might be something different.
And at Kansas Christian College, there is a community ready to walk with you when you’re ready to take it.
