Dr. Cheri Kommel was saved at age 9 and called to missions when she was 16. After completing a bachelor’s degree in English and special education, she served as a teacher in Missouri and California for about ten years before moving to Africa as a missionary with the Church of the Nazarene. Dr. Kommel spent nearly thirty years in Swaziland (eSwatini), South Africa, and Botswana, teaching in various high schools, teacher training colleges, and theological institutions. During that time, she was ordained as a minister, completed a master’s degree in ministerial studies, and a master’s degree in biblical leadership and ministry.
After returning to the United States, Dr. Kommel joined us at Kansas Christian College for the spring 2016 semester. In addition to teaching a variety of courses, she now serves as an advisor, coordinates internships, chairs the professional studies division, and tutors in our new Student Success Center.
She describes the rewards of teaching here: “Being at KCC has been part of God’s design and purpose for my life. It is a joy to spend time with the students in and out of the classroom and watch them mature emotionally and spiritually, becoming the men and women God has created them to be. The greatest reward is seeing students begin a personal relationship with God, after coming to KCC with little or no understanding of God and Scripture. I am thankful for the opportunity to be part of their lives.”
