When looking at school yearbooks, the word that comes to mind is “Testify.” Whether looking at last year’s memory book or one from decades ago, many pleasant thoughts remind us and testify to the good things God has brought into our lives. Webster’s Dictionary of 1828 defines “testify” in three parts: “To make a solemn declaration, verbal or written, to establish some fact; to give testimony for the purpose of communicating to others a knowledge of something not known to them.”
This year’s yearbook testifies, in writing and pictures, the solemn declaration of a most unusual year at Overland Christian. The challenges of face masks, temperatures, social distancing, frequent sanitation, and occasional quarantines were overcome by the grace of God and the patience of men and women, boys and girls.
This year’s yearbook establishes the fact that the God-given perseverance and encouragement received by staff, students, and parents is powerful enough to overcome the isolation inherent in distance learning and the cancellation of several events, which normally are a source of joy and excitement.
This year’s yearbook, perhaps more than previous books, testifies to others something previously not known or appreciated—that God’s grace is sufficient for what we face in each day of life. We have been humbled, tested, satisfied with our needs being met and even some of our wants being granted.
Glory to God, who reminds us to “humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.”
